A herbaceous perennial, 20cm high, spreading by rhizomes, with semi-evergreen, aromatic, lobed green leaves, which turn orange and red in autumn, and flowers 2.5cm across with petals which appear almost white but are very pale pink with darker pink veins, and dark pink anthers and stigmas, from late spring to early summer
