A deciduous shrub or small tree with a narrow, upright habit. Leaves are broadly ovate, mid to dark green with toothed margins, and turn shades of yellow in autumn. Produces large, scented flowers on bare stems in late winter and early spring, with long, narrow, bright lemon yellow petals and small, recurved deep reddish-purple sepals at the base

Cultivation
