A slow-growing rounded shrub or small tree about 8m tall, with a simple or sparsely branched stem bearing terminal rosettes of sharp-pointed, variegated dark green leaves, margined pale green and edged cream, with bell-shaped white or purple-tinged flowers to 4cm long in panicles about 45cm long, held above the foliage from summer to autumn

How to grow

Cultivation

Grow in an unheated greenhouse in containers of peat-free multi-purpose compost in bright indirect light and keep just moist. Can be grown outside in the summer months in sun or part shade, water freely and use a general liquid fertiliser monthly from spring to summer. May be hardy in mild areas or inner city locations. Propagate by seed, flowers may require hand-pollination to set seed; or remove rooted suckers
