A large evergreen conifer, reaching approximately 25-40 metres in height, with a fibrous, red-brown trunk and mid green, awl-shaped, scale-like leaves arranged spirally around upright shoots. Upright cones appear after flowering and when ripe, the reddish-brown cones (5-8cm) hang down. This cultivar is named because it doesn't assume the usual red-bronze tints in winter
