Vigorous perennial grass with a running rootstock, producing upright stems flushed pink at the base, to 1m tall, bearing narrow, linear, pale green leaves with broad white stripes, sometimes suffused pinkish-red. In summer produces narrow panicles to 17cm long of pale green flower spikelets flushed pale purple
