About the garden
Trentham Estate is a unique 186-acre historic parkland featuring multi-award-winning gardens. Centuries after ‘Capability’ Brown designed the lake and parkland, and Sir Charles Barry laid out the famous Italianate gardens, Trentham in Staffordshire has been restored by a trio of internationally acclaimed designers: Piet Oudolf, Tom Stuart-Smith and Nigel Dunnett.
Highlights include the Rivers of Grass and the Floral Labyrinth, both designed by Piet Oudolf. Trentham is also undertaking the Gardens Revisited Project, which focuses on the Italian Garden and Rose Border developments through a three-year phased program. The project involves collaboration with renowned garden designer Tom Stuart-Smith and world-famous rose growers David Austin Roses.
Many rare UK wildlife species can be spotted around the lakeside walks, woodlands and gardens throughout the year, including a family of beavers, water voles, otters, fallow deer, weasels, over 80 species of birds (including kingfishers), 17 species of dragonflies and damselflies, as well as butterflies, moths and pollinators.
