About the garden
Hill Close Gardens are located between the town centre and Warwick Racecourse, just a five-minute walk from Market Square. These 16 hedged, Grade-II listed gardens are managed by a small charitable trust and supported by a large community of volunteers. Characterised by a rich diversity of fruit trees, soft fruit, flowers, exotic vegetables and lawns, as well as summerhouses or wooden shelters, the gardens differ from allotments, and this diversity is preserved to ensure that each plot or garden retains its own unique character.
In 2005, a significant restoration transformed the overgrown and neglected area into the delightful, secluded haven of tranquillity visitors can see today. There are four borders of special interest: the Victorian Border, showcasing only plants grown during Victorian times; the Rare Plant Border, supported by Plant Heritage for the conservation of rare plants at risk; the Bulb Border; and the Chrysanthemum Border, which houses part of the dispersed National Collection. Visitors can also explore among 70 different varieties of heritage apple and pear trees.
