About the garden
Andalusia Historic House, Gardens and Arboretum is situated on the banks of a beautiful stretch of the Delaware River, just outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. For more than two centuries and six generations, it has been the ancestral home of the Biddles, a prominent American family. Built in 1797, the house was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966. It is surrounded by gardens designed by Lady Arabella Lennox-Boyd and an arboretum with a curated collection of more than 1,000 trees, representing over 250 different species.
Highlights on the River Walk include a paperbark maple, a China fir and an ancient shagbark hickory. In spring, the Easter Garden bursts with colourful bulbs and trees, while thousands of daffodils line the Woodland Walk. An Old-Growth Forest is dominated by oak, sweet gumand American beech trees. The Walled Garden features a Rose Garden maintained in honour of Letitia Glenn Biddle, co-founder of the Garden Club of America.
