About the garden
Established in the early 1980s on part of the Old Court Nurseries site to house the National Plant Collection of autumn-flowering asters, The Picton Garden is a charming 1.5-acre plantsman’s treat nestled at the foot of the Malvern Hills. The garden is renowned for its herbaceous borders, which burst into colour from mid-September, but its backbone is formed by a variety of unusual trees and shrubs. Of particular interest is the ever-expanding collection of over 300 snowdrops and 100 different ferns.
In early spring, bulbs, Epimediums and flowering shrubs take centre stage, while in May, peonies dominate the display. June showcases a range of herbaceous plants and tender succulents. The colour intensifies from late July, with crocosmias and heleniums lighting up the August borders and culminating in a spectacular riot of colour from mid-September.
