An 800-year-old stately home nestled in 50 acres of historic gardens. Evolving over centuries, the gardens contain a wide range of rare and unusual plants, blending native and exotic: a delicate balance of design and natural effect. This is a garden for plant treasure hunters, nurtured by the gentle Pembrokeshire climate.

Our Walled Garden contains an eclectic range of plants that aim to provide colour from earliest spring until late autumn. A chaotic mix of annuals, perennials and unusual shrubs vie for attention. Attached to the Walled Garden is an indoor fernery, home to species not quite hardy enough for outdoor living. In our Heritage Courtyard Garden you will find the history of the gardens, our herb and medicinal plant collection and a Wildlife Demonstration Garden. The newly developed Peach House Walk is packed with late-flowering perennials, including many daisy relatives such as Rudbekia, Symphyotrichum and Helianthus.

The variety continues in our Jungle Garden with its riot of exotics, including over 30 varieties of ginger lily (Hedychium). Nearby is our Jungle Boardwalk leading through the Gunnera to our adventure playground. The expansive Woodland Gardens contain a vast array of plants and we specialise in unusual species that thrive in our mild climate: this includes mature treeferns, a beautiful Myrtle Avenue (Luma apiculata), rare conifers (we are part of a conservation programme) and flamboyant Hydrangea that brighten the summer months. 

Our Rhododendron collection contains many varieties that have been bred at Picton Castle over the last 50 years. From the ardent plant enthusiast to the youngest child, there is something for everybody. We welcome group bookings and can host tours of the gardens and castle. We offer a programme of gardening courses, art exhibitions and events throughout the year. Please see our website for details.
