• Wide range of shrubs for autumn and winter colour including Callicarpa, Skimmia and Gaultheria.
• New seasons roses arriving by the end of the month.
• Plenty of container top and soft fruit becoming available during the month.

Herbaceous of the Month: Ornamental grasses

• Good selection of ornamental grasses for containers or in the garden.
• Plenty of late summer herbaceous plants including anemones and asters.
• First of the new seasons hellebores in a range of colours.

 

Houseplants and bedding

Houseplant of the Month: Cyclamen

• Plenty of houseplants for Christmas now available, especially azaleas and cyclamens.
• Good range of autumn bedding still available, pansies, primroses and the last of the wallflowers.
• There will be Amaryllis bulbs loose and in gift boxes later in the month.

 

Sundries and bulbs

• Excellent selection of Christmas gifts and decorations for early in the month.
• Plenty of bird food and feeders for now the cooler weather has arrived.
• Still plenty of spring bulbs available especially tulips.

 

Jobs in the garden

• Last chance to plant out a good range of spring flowering bulbs.
• Plant out your autumn onion sets and garlic in the next few weeks.
• Last opportunity to spray the lawn against leatherjacket and chafer grubs. Use Provado.

Taste of Autumn festival
17 - 20 October

The Plant Centre will have a fruit stand in the gardens as part of the Taste of Autumn festival.
