The RHS Fruit Group

The Fruit Group is now getting involved with a number of events such as RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, A Taste of Autumn at RHS gardens and the apple shows at Vincent Square. If you have time to help at these show please get in touch. The tasks range from cutting up apples to talking to people about the Fruit Group.

21 March
Wisley Afternoon Talks

1.30 - 4.30pm

Paul Alexander, the RHS resident Soil Scientist, will talk about the nutrient requirements of fruit trees.
Demonstration on planting, organised by the Fruit Department staff.

14 June
Wisley Visit

1.30 - 4.30pm

Summer pruning of top and soft fruit.

14 August
Visit to Ken Muir and Park Fruit Farm

10am for 10.30am start
Cost: £10 (includes tea, coffee)

Park Fruit Farm grows more than 40 cultivars of apples, 10 of plums and damsons, and four pear cultivars.

12 September
Visit to West Dean

9.45am for 10.30am start
Cost: £110 (includes tea, coffee)

The best example of a productive walled garden, skilfully maintained to a superior level.

1 November
Wisley Afternoon Talks

1.30 - 4.30pm

Talks by John Haimer on bees and beekeeping, a talk by Jim Arbury on his visit to France to a new fruit garden, and a talk by Barry Juniper on the origin of the English apple.
