National Gardening Week

From 28 April to 4 May 2025, we’re inviting the gardening-curious, first-time and new gardeners to create and maintain their unique green spaces with individuality, confidence and success

The focus of National Gardening Week in 2025 is new and beginner gardeners. We know that creating your first outdoor garden or starting out as an indoor ‘plant parent’ can be a daunting experience – so we are supporting new and curious gardeners as they start their growing journey.

From beginner gardening tips, how-to guides and videos, to a series of easy gardening challenges to help all keen gardeners to develop a lifelong love of gardening – the RHS is here to support you every step of the way.

Inspiration for beginners

Create a garden that works for you and your space

“People get a deep feeling of accomplishment when they grow a plant. We want all gardeners – and their gardens – to flourish from the very beginning.”

Clare Matterson, Director General of the RHS

What is National Gardening Week?

Ever since the first celebration in 2012, this annual event has grown in popularity. Each year National Gardening Week (NGW) sees thousands of people sharing their love of gardening, hosting events and talking about what they’re growing on social media.

The week also raises awareness of the difference that gardens and gardening can make to the lives of everyone in the UK. It helps to inspire more people, particularly the next generation of gardeners, to experience the joy of growing and creating beautiful green spaces.
