RHS Chatsworth Flower Show

At the heart of the first show was the Great Conservatory, which took inspiration from Joseph Paxton’s Great Conservatory at Chatsworth – housing vibrant flowers, exotic palms and aquatic plants. The original conservatory, the largest glass building in England when it was constructed in 1840, was demolished in 1920. Taking inspiration from the shape of this long-lost glasshouse and using modern inflatable technology, a giant 14-metre high dome formed the centrepiece of the Floral Marquees.

Small but perfectly formed, thousands of beautiful orchids took centre stage at the 2018 show. Up to 5,000 plants, grown by Double H Nurseries in Hampshire, created one of the biggest-ever displays of these beguiling plants, with 100 varieties on show. The magnificent ‘Great Conservatory’ was filled with Phalaenopsis (moth orchids), representing Paxton’s Great Conservatory at Chatsworth House and its incredible history of orchid growing. Award-winning floral designer Jonathan Moseley, known for his innovative and creative floral designs, masterminded the display.

The third year of RHS Chatsworth Flower Show saw more innovative gardening ideas, insightful talks, theatres and trade stands galore brought to Derbyshire. A mesmerizing sea of pink dahlias stood proudly in front of Chatsworth House in full bloom, producing a wonderful river of colour to greet guests as they entered the show. Visitors wandered among these beautiful flowers – Dahlia Dalina Maxi (Salinas bi-colour) – as their colourful blooms provided the perfect backdrop for a photo or two.
